Campaign Spotlight: David's Plan for Economic Development

From the Campaign Blog

David Talks Economic Development

Yesterday, David spoke to the Arkansas Economic Developers conference in Hot Springs, and distinguished his common sense solutions for creating jobs, fixing our economy, and putting working families first from his opponent's boilerplate GOP talking points.

Here's a copy of the release we sent to the media today:

FAYETTEVILLE - Democratic candidate for US Congress, David Whitaker, appeared at the annual conference of the Arkansas Economic Developers in Hot Springs on Tuesday, speaking at a forum with his opponent, Rogers Mayor Steve Womack. The topic of the day was economic development in Arkansas, and David's plan to bring growth to Arkansas left no doubt who he would put first in Washington.

"It was an honor to get to speak with the folks who create jobs in Arkansas. In order to get this economy into a real recovery, we've got to put small businesses and working middle-class families first," Whitaker said.

Whitaker's economic plans include extending tax cuts to middle-class families and small businesses, and making sure that companies that employ the majority of their workers in the United States receive incentives for creating jobs.

I've Been Everywhere, Man

The campaign is striking a chord from the old Hank Snow ballad this week, traveling to half of the counties of the district in just seven days. Starting last Thursday, David has visited:
  • Jasper on Thursday night
  • Russellville on Monday night
  • Springdale on Tuesday morning
  • Van Buren on Tuesday afternoon
  • Fort Smith on Tuesday evening
We're headed out to the Benton County fair to meet voters tonight, which will put us at six counties in six days! Here's the press release that we sent out today, talking about David's commitment to being competitive in the whole district:

FAYETTEVILLE - Democratic candidate for US Congress, David Whitaker, traveled to Springdale, Van Buren, and Fort Smith yesterday, maintaining a breakneck campaign schedule that will have him visiting half the district's counties in one week's time.

"We're going to take this campaign to every corner of the district, and we're not going to stop campaigning until November 2nd," Whitaker said. "This is Arkansas, and we have elections here, not coronations."

David Pledges to Protect Social Security

Today, David sent out a press release pledging to defend Social Security and calling out his opponent for endangering the retirement savings of tens of thousands of Arkansas seniors. Check it out below:

FAYETTEVILLE - David Whitaker, the Democratic nominee for Congress in Arkansas' Third District, pledged on Monday to protect Social Security benefits for Arkansas seniors, and to seek a bipartisan solution to ensure that future generations would be protected in their retirement.

This weekend we celebrated the 75th anniversary of a program that has provided dignity and a standard of living for senior citizens that is unparalleled in the world," Whitaker said. "We must seek common ground to protect our seniors, and keep Social Security safe."

David Visits with President Clinton

David and his wife, Lisa, had the privilege of briefly visiting with President Bill Clinton during his visit to Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday, August 11. David and Lisa were among the guests invited to a private event on the University of Arkansas campus where they posed for a few quick photos with the former president.
